CHARGED PARTICLE MEASUREMENTS BY MEANS OF ELECTROSTATIC PROBES.

Abstract

Multi-electrode analyzers of varying geometry designed to measure the properties of environmental ions and electrons in the ionosphere are discussed. The measurement of ion and electron densities, temperatures and energy distributions are considered. It is shown that under conditions where the velocity of the vehicle on which the experiment is mounted is large compared to the most probable ion velocity, crude ion mass determinations may be obtained.
