ON WAVE PROPAGATION IN ONE DIMENSIONAL RUBBERLIKE MATERIALS

Abstract

An investigation was made of the propagation of mechanical waves in straight bars or wires, or rubber-like materials, having negligible transverse dimensions and possessing a uniform cross section of finite area. The times to discontinuity evolution from smooth initial data are computed and used to ascertain the region of validity of the generalized Lagrange series solution.
