NORMS OF THE SUCCESSIVE OVERRELAXATION METHOD AND RELATED METHODS.

Abstract

Norms of several iterative methods for solving the linear system Au = b are developed. These methods include the successive overrelaxation method, the cyclic Chebyshev semi-iterative method, and other related methods. Theoretical and numerical comparisons are given for the iterative methods and norms considered. The results indicate that by using a different norm than was previously considered, the successive overrelaxation method compares more favorably with the cyclic Chebyshev semi-iterative and with the other iterative methods considered.
