OXIDATION AND PROTECTION OF BERYLLIUM,

Abstract

The book presents the results of experimental research on the corrosion and protection of beryllium in various gaseous media within a wide range of temperatures and pressures. The results of kinetic, optical, electron-microscopic, x-ray, and electronographic examinations are given. The effect of various factors (purity, moisture of the gaseous medium, surface treatment, etc.) on the oxidation kinetics are pointed out. The possibility of improving the anticorrosion properties of metal is examined. Considerable attention is given to a description of the properties of corrosion-resistant beryllium alloys and various beryllides. Data on the oxidation mechanism of pure metals and alloys are given and the theory of beryllium oxidation is described. (Author)
