INEQUALITY IN INDUSTRIAL AUTHORITY.

Abstract

The report has two objectives: To test in the secondary literature on work units several dimensions of the analytic scheme devised for studying authority patterns in various social units; and to assess previous studies of authority and authority patterns in factory settings. The data and observations on superordinate-subordinate relations of five empirical studies, three American, one French, and one Japanese, are analyzed with a view to determining perceptions and practices of 'inequality' between superordinates and subordinates.
