EFFECT OF FLUID FLOW ON SOLIDIFICATION STRUCTURE.

Abstract

The report summarizes five interrelated but separate investigations on effect of fluid flow on solidification structure. The first chapter is an analytic investigation of effect of gravity on macrosegregation. The second chapter deals with effects of turbulent convection on the growth structure of horizontally grown Al-CuAl2 eutectic alloy. The third chapter reports work on 'composite' solidification of aluminum-copper eutectic alloys. The fourth chapter is on the solidification of ice dendrites in flowing supercooled water. The fifth chapter is a progress report of current work on the effect of vigorous convection on solidification structures.
