COMPARISON OF UNCOLLIDED PORTION OF GAMMA RADIATION PENETRATING RIBBED AND PLANE SLABS.

Abstract

Exposure ratios and average exposure ratios which compare the penetration of uncollided gamma radiation through ribbed and plane concrete slabs of infinite lateral extent are reported. The mass thicknesses of the plane slabs are assumed to be equal to the average mass thicknesses of the ribbed slabs. Formulas are developed for broad, monodirectional, monoenergetic sources and data are tabulated for 1.25-MeV, 'fan' and plane isotropic sources. Parameters are also presented for an empirical formula which approximates the average exposure ratio for 'fan' and plane isotropic sources. (Author)
