OBSERVATION OF GEOSTATIONARY SYNCOM III.
Abstract
Total electron content and scintillation observations made at Taipei by receiving radio signal from Syncom III are examined. There exists post-sunset peak in electron content which has the greatest occurrence and largest peak value in March. The ratio of the electron contents for sunspot numbers 110 and 14 at this latitude is estimated to be about 3.4. The plasma temperature derived from the equivalent slab thickness of scale height for April varies from 850K at 00-02 hour to 1400K at 13:30 hour, and its daytime maximum lags 1.5 hours behind that of the solar radiation. The diurnal patterns of the scintillation occurrence for March, April and May differ considerably. It is possible that the difference can be attributed to the ionospheric irregularities situated at different heights. (Author)
