OPTIMAL DYNAMIC OPERATING POLICIES FOR A SERVICE FACILITY.
Abstract
The dynamic control of service facilities is studied with the goal of determining optimal policies for the acceptance or rejection of arriving customers, for the control of the rate at which customers are serviced, and for the order in which customers of different types are served. Optimal steady state policies are found for several models of service facilities. The technique utilized is to hypothesize the form of the optimal control as a function of the state of the system and then verify optimality using Markovian and Semi-Markovian Decision Analysis.
