ZODIACAL LIGHT AND ITS CORRELATION WITH SOLAR ACTIVITY.

Abstract

Photographic observations of the Zodiacal Light in two colors (blue and yellow) and two polarizations (parallel and perpendicular to the ecliptic) have been made from the high altitude station of the Jungfraujoch. The observations extend from elongations 30 to 60 degrees. The color is about identical to that of the sun. The polarization measurements are very uncertain because of the effect of scattering of the ground covered with snow. The intensity of the Zodiacal Light in September 1966 (about two years after solar minimum) is decidedly lower than in March 1968 (about one year before expected solar maximum). (Author)
