ONE DIMENSIONAL APPROXIMATION SOLUTION OF A VARIATIONAL PROBLEM ON DESIGN OF A MAXIMUM THRUST NOZZLE WITH FOREIGN PARTICLE GAS FLOW,

Abstract

A study was made of the design of an optimal nozzle configuration in a flow of gas containing heterogeneous particles. On the basis of a series of differential equations, the solution is presented in a one-dimensional approximation. Graphical results of the solution are given. A comparison of the results shows that a higher nozzle efficiency is obtained by a shift of the maximum particle lag from the throat region toward the subsonic region. The absence of a direct relationship between relative particle lag magnitudes and impulse losses was noted. (Author)
