A DEVICE FOR LOGIC INFORMATION PROCESSING,

Abstract

A device for improving the processing of information and thus increasing the speed of operation of digital computers is described. It does this by fulfilling two essential components of the information-logic problem: by choosing some known part of the total information block for parallel review of the entire block, and by parallel logic processing of a sequence of codes. Ordinary computers with no special device for solving these problems can solve them, but do so very slowly and require an unnecessarily complex program. By complicating the equipment to some extent, the programming system can be simplified. The basic demands made of the device are the following: associative retrieval as opposed to address retrieval; recording and counting by lines and columns: availability of any part of the information; performing logic operations in a matrix. A functional description of the device and its command system is given, and its fundamental components are explained in some detail.
