SHORT TERM DENSITY VARIATIONS OVER WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE,
Abstract
Two series of atmospheric soundings were made to determine the variation in density over a 4-hour period under nighttime conditions. The series consisted of eight rocketsondes launched at approximately half-hour intervals, with three launched within three minutes of each other to determine instrument reliability. Inflatable falling spheres were launched at the beginning and end of each series to extend the density measurements to an altitude of 92km. Data reduction methods are discussed for bead thermistors and inflatable falling spheres. (Author)
