Abstract

This review covers 3 facets related to the pattern of distribution of the human lung fluke Paragonimus westermani in Japan; (1) the geographic location of reported cases of infected snails, crabs, and humans, (2) the difficulties of locating infected snails in endemic river systems, (3) the identity of the species of snail reported to be the first intermediate host of P. westermani.
