CONTROL VECTORS THROUGH INTERFERENCE WITH NORMAL PROCESSES OF INSECT PHYSIOLOGY, REPRODUCTION AND BEHAVIOR.

Abstract

The main purpose of our program is to develop 'safe' agents for the control of insects of medical importance. Instead of emphasizing dosage mortality relationship, we have started with phases of development which are exclusive to insects, and have attempted to discover substances which would either create physiological imbalance during these stages or profoundly affect insect behavior. The following areas have been investigated: Chemicals producing teratogenic effects on insects by interacting with insect cuticle. Substances showing transient interference with the development of insects. Plants and microbial extracts exhibiting desirable influence on the developmental physiology of insects. (Author)
