THE SEX-DIFFERENTIAL IN CANADIAN UNEMPLOYMENT DATA,

Abstract

The paper is concerned with the number of married women who are in the labour force, but are unemployed. Two estimates are made of the number of unemployed married women. It has been noted that Canada is the only industrial country where females have lower unemployment rates than males. The paper suggests that the anomaly is due to the counting methods used. One corrected estimate leads to a reversal of the sex-differential and a different unemployment rate for females. (Author)
