BLOOD LOSS USING STRYKER RECIPROCATING SAW IN VERTICAL OSTEOTOMY OF THE MANDIBLE,

Abstract

A Stryker micro-reciprocating saw was used to perform vertical osteotomies for surgical correction of mandibular prognathism, and was evaluated with respect to time of operation and amount of blood loss. Twenty-six operations were studied, half performed by standard procedures with a cutting bur, and half with a Stryker reciprocating saw. Operating time was recorded routinely; blood loss was measured by standard operating room techniques. There was no observable difference in time, but average blood losses of 408 ml per operation with a cutting bur were reduced to 200 ml by use of the Stryker saw. (Author)
