GEOGRAPHY AND THE PROPERTIES OF SURFACES. SOME REFLECTIONS ON CONCEPTS BASED ON THREE-DIMENSIONAL GEOMETRY.
Abstract
The possible generation of conceptual surfaces in three-dimensional space, rendering spatial certain ratios and coefficients, in particular those derived in statistical analysis, imposes the need for consideration of new approaches in the interpretation of the meaning and significance of those ratios and coefficients. The paper shows how some of the notions derived on the basis of three-dimensional geometry take a different character in higher spaces, implying that, perhaps, the analysis in n-dimensional space, as against the three-dimensional with which one is accustomed, will provide the needed interpretation and understanding of the true significance of certain types of non-spatial variates.
