OPTIMIZATION OF ARMAMENT SELECTION,

Abstract

The book deals with the essence of an analytic approach to planning the development of armament. Mathematical methods of selection of optimum combinations of weapons systems are examined on the basis of a comparative appriasal of their effectiveness and cost. The process of selection of the most effective forces and weapons for carrying out a specific mission is analyzed in examples of comparing weapons systems of different branches of the armed forces, primarily Navy. The book is intended for officers in the Soviet Army and Navy, but the methods discussed in the book are sufficiently general to be of interest to specialists in the national economy who are concerned with problems of the rational use of limited material resources. The military examples used pertain primarily to the armed forces of the United States. Chapter headings are: Nature of the problem of armament selection; Elements of military-economic evaluation of armament; General characteristics of mathematical methods for optimization of armament selection; and Preparation and acceptance of solutions on armament structure.
