THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY ON THE BASIS OF INSTRUMENT OBSERVATIONS,

Abstract

In connection with the construction of thunderstorm recorders the author discusses the selection of such parameters as the frequency characteristics, the radius of action (sensitivity) and the resolving capacity. The selection of frequency characteristics of the counter begins with the emission spectrum of lightning itself; for recording lightning discharges at the earth's surface thunderstorm recorders with a transmission zone width of 1-20 MHz are recommended. For recording all discharges the thunderstorm recorder operating in the range of 50-60 MHz should be used. Methods for constructing maps of thunderstorm discharges are discussed. (Author)
