HEMORRHAGIC NEPHROSONEPHRITIS IN PRIMORYE REGION,

Abstract

Primor'ye region is one of the largest permanent active Hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis foci in the Soviet Union. Today in Primor'ye region there is a high annual Hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis morbidity which reaches 100 or more cases in different years. The chief reservoir of Hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis infection in the Daur-Manchurian focus is the Manchurian striped field mouse and the reed vole, and in the Manchurian-Mountain focus the large-toothed red-backed and northern red-backed voles, and also the large Japanese field mouse. The clinical picture of Hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis infection in Primor'ye has a classic feature with presence of distinctly pronounced hemorrhagic and renal syndromes and numerous severe forms with a high mortality rate. In Primor'ye region, seasonal Hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis incidence dynamics has 2 peaks; spring-summer (May-June) with a peak at the beginning of July caused by increased wild muring rodent numbers and mass visiting by humans in woods, meadows, etc. The second peak in the fall (October-December) with a peak in November, is caused by mass migration of wild murine rodents to the vicinity of human dwellings. The accumulated epidemiological and virological data indicate the greater possibility of transmission of the agent to humans through rodent excrement. Infection of newborn white mice with virus-containing materials in several cases caused death of these animals in the first passages, this shows perspectives for application of this method for finding the presence of Hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis agent.
