ECOLOGICALFAUNISTIC INVESTIGATION IN IXODID TICKS AND THE EPIZOOTIOLOGY OF HEMOSPORIDIOSES IN FARM ANIMALS OF WESTERN PRIKASPYE,
Abstract
From 1953 to 1965, over 18,000 domestic and wild animals belonging to 70 species were examined. Tick collections were also carried out in pastures, cattle breeding buildings, and in nests and burrows of wild rodents. For elucidation of the species composition of hemosporidiosis agents in farm animals, over 53,000 smears were taken from the blood and about 58,000 ticks collected. Animals become infected by larvae, nymphs and adults of Hyalomma scupense at the beginning of fall, and in winter and spring; by Rh. bursa larvae and nymphs in fall; and by adult I. ricinus, D. marginatus, Haemaphysalis punctata, and H. otophila in fall and spring. Boophilus larvae, nymphs, and adults parasitize animals in early spring, summer, and fall.
