GAMASID MITES AND Q FEVER,

Abstract

In order to demonstrate the incidence of natural rickettsia infection, gamasid mites were usually examined in typical natural foci of Q fever where R. burneti strains were isolated from many animal species and from ixodid ticks. A total of 34 bioassays were performed in which 13 gamasid mite species were investigated. Three Rickettsia burneti strains were isolated, and in 4 cases rickettsial presence was confirmed by means of serologic reactions. (Author)
