TRANSPORT PHENOMENA IN ELECTROCHEMICAL SYSTEMS.
Abstract
A report is presented on the 20th Meeting of the International Committee of Electrochemical Thermodynamics and Kinetics (CITCE) in Strasbourg, France, on 15-20 September 1969. There were 140 papers from more than fifteen countries. The major theme of the meeting was 'Transport Phenomena in Electrochemical Systems.' Four topics were selected under this theme: transport processes connected with electrode reactions; transport processes at the center of electroconducting phases; transport in or toward membranes and systems of biological interest; and porous electrodes, dispersed systems, solid electrolytes and semi-conductors. For the purpose of this report, it was considered more valuable to categorize the papers under fourteen different sub-topics. These sub-topics and the number of papers under each are as follows: fundamentals (8); moving electrodes (13); convection (11); electrical conductivity (15); ion mobilities (5); polarography (6); synthetic membranes (9); biological membranes (13); non-miscible liquid interfaces (4); porous electrodes (13); solid electrolytes (6); fuel cells (4); metals (22); and, miscellaneous (10). All of the papers are briefly reviewed under their relevant sub-topic. A paper by Levitch which was not abstracted (nor will it be printed by the meeting organizers) is described in more detail than the others. (Author)
