SYNTHESIS AND EVALUATION OF NEW PHENYLATED POLYQUINOXALINES,

Abstract

The syntheses and a preliminary evaluation of two new phenylated polyquinoxalines are reported. Their thermal, oxidative, solubility, and processability properties are compared with each other and with five other polyquinoxalines. Significant relationships between chemical structures and thermal and oxidative stabilities are shown. Polyquinoxalines which are phenylated show greatly superior properties over the nonphenylated types. Further, these can be dissolved in many solvents after extended exposure to 250C in air. One of these new polymers had a film flex-life of more than 10 days at 400C (725F) in air. The polymerization was unexpectedly found to proceed at room temperature. (Author)
