Abstract
The paper reviews research being conducted on electric discharges in gases. The research includes the following topics: kinetic emission by alkali ions from a clean tungsten or aluminum surface, a technique for amplifying residual ionization in spark and other channels after a time lapse, secondary streamers in lightning, and the breakdown of dielectric oils by streamer pulses.
