LOGARITHMIC COMPRESSION AT RADIO FREQUENCIES OF VARIOUS SIGNAL WAVEFORMS.

Abstract

Effects of logarithmic compression at radio frequencies on various waveforms are examined analytically. It is shown that solutions for even the most simple inputs can be very complicated. An equivalent block diagram for the radio-frequency logarithmic amplifier is derived that illustrates the features it has in common with bandpass limiters and video logarithmic amplifiers. A circuit design technique that can be used to design a logarithmic amplifier is discussed. Laboratory results are given for a 100-dB input dynamic range logarithmic amplifier at 100 MHz. (Author)
