A FALL OUTBREAK OF BOVINE THEILERIASIS,
Abstract
Summer enzootics of bovine theileriasis frequently occur under the conditions present in the Primor'ye region. Theileriasis of young cattle was recorded in the Kommunar Collective Farm in June-July 1964. The course of disease in cows was severe. A sharp decrease of milk productivity, atony of rumen, loss of appetite, and unsteady gait were observed. Jaundiced mucous membranes and unpigmented skin areas became visible. Surface lymph nodes were slightly enlarged. In 2 animals, diarrhea was mixed with blood, and 4 cows aborted. Severely ill animals groaned, began to salivate, and in some a loss of appetite was observed. Body temperature was normal. Two of the ill cows died. Bovine theileriasis, caused by T. sergenti, appeared in the fall and the incubation period last up to 60 days. The combination of azidine with amino-acrichine and sulphantrol proved to have a good therapeutic effect.
