DURATION OF FEEDING AND BEHAVIOUR OF ENGORGED HYALOMMA ANATOLICUM KOCH FEMALES,

Abstract

The feeding process was studied in the tick H. anatolicum. The data obtained show that during the period of maximum tick attack, animals lose a great amount of blood. They grow leaner and their resistance to disease is lowered. The females' nocturnal detachment pattern as established by us is an adaptation since the females remain in the cattle sheds which offer favorable conditions for ovipositing and the ensuing embryonic development.
