THE PREPARATION OF SIMPLIFIED MANUALS FOR SHIELDING ANALYSIS.

Abstract

An analysis has been made on the effects of finite rectangular fields of contamination on the radiation-shielding characteristics of shelters. Emphasis has been placed on the basement and upper-story shelter areas where the wall-scattered radiation component is generally predominant. Finite-field, engineering-method shelter calculations were compared with results obtained by using the CONSTRIP computer code, and each of the engineering-method parameters were investigated to determine which might be responsible for the differences observed between comparable attenuation values calculated by the two methods.
