SOUND VELOCITY CHARACTERISTICS IN THE SARGASSO SEA BASED ON OBSERVATIONS ON CRUISE 89 OF R/V CHAIN.

Abstract

On Cruise 89 of R/V CHAIN about 60 sound velocity profiles were made in the Sargasso Sea. In order to provide a more complete understanding of the sound velocity structure in this area, the data is presented in a collected form. Ordered groupings of the SVP's along selected lines of stations are presented with iso-velocity contours constructed. For the same lines of stations the SVP's are also plotted superimposed. Finally, sound velocity contours for the area at depths of 200, 600 and 800 meters are presented. (Author)
