PLANNING AND ROLE ASSIGNMENT IN THE STUDY OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION: A STUDY OF TWO COUNTRIES.

Abstract

A negotiation exercise in which two samples of managers, one from the United States and one from the United Kingdom was used to present cross-cultural behavioral differences in a conflict resolution situlation. The three areas examined were the effect of the issues involved in the union-management of exercises; the role assignment of the bargainer; and the impact of the preplanned strategy on the negotiation. Differences in the approach of both samples to resolving the conflict were related to economic, cultural and social differences. Further differences were related to the familiarity of the participant with his assigned role. (Author)
