ON THE PROBLEM OF QUARTZ CERAMIC MOLDING BY THE SLIP CASTING METHOD,

Abstract

An investigation was made of the process of slip casting ceramic made with melted quartz. The dependence of basic slip properties on the fineness of grinding, the dependence of pH values on viscosity, and the effect of drass moisture on the properties of slip and castings are shown. The mechanism of changes in the mechanical strength and density of castings is explained. A method of slip aging is proposed making it possible to improve considerably the quality of casting and molding. Moldings with a porosity of 13-15 percent and a transverse bending strength of 10-14 kg/(sq-cm) were obtained using this method. It was established that heating of the dross up to 60C decreases the viscosity and increases the density of the castings.
