FAILURE OF GLASS UNDER BIAXIAL LOADING.

Abstract

The paper presents results on the fracture of glass at pressures up to 10 Kb (150,000 psi). Fracture mechanics techniques were used to collect experimental data and results are expressed in terms of fracture surface energies. The fracture surface energies were observed to be independent of pressure for the three compositions studied. The results suggest that no change occurs in the mechanism of fracture at elevated pressures. (Author)
