LANTHANUM HEXABORIDE AND ZIRCONIUM CARBIDE DIRECTLY HEATED CATHODES FOR AN INJECTOR-BUNCHER,

Abstract

ZrC cathode spikes with points having about 1 mu radius were made by the electro-forming process in a 4 percent NaF solution. LaB6 cathodes were formed in an H3PO4 electrolyte. The properties of these new cathodes were tested under varying current, temperature and vacuum conditions. The results are graphed and relative advantages of the two types are compared.
