THE INVESTIGATION OF STRESSES IN A COMPRESSOR-BLADE FOIL,

Abstract

The paper contains the results of an investigation of stresses in compressor rotors and blades. Specifically, the stresses in 'dove-tail' joints (two-dimensional problem) and the key end of a compressor blade with a considerable natural twist (three-dimensional problem) were evaluated. A model of the rotor was constructed using a special alloy. The stresses between the blade slots on the rotor were measured using an optical polarization method. A grid was applied to the blade at the beginning of the experiment. The distortion of the grid pattern after the test was used to measure the strain. The effects of rotor and joint geometries on the stress distribution were measured and plotted.
