Abstract
The report covers the following topics: In search of the acoustic cues; stop duration and voicing in English; tonal experiments in whispered Thai; synthesis by rule as a tool for phonological research; the grammars of speech and language; the function of muscles in control of stress and intonation; the motor theory of speech perception--a reply to Lane's critical review; further results on the development of voicing in stop-consonants in young children; observing laryngeal adjustments during running speech by use of a fiberoptics system; and laryngeal muscle activity during vocal pitch and intensity changes.
