MICROWAVE ACOUSTICS AND NONLINEAR OPTICS.
Abstract
The investigations were concerned with nonlinear interaction effects in solids, particularly those related to microwave acoustics and nonlinear optics. The studies themselves are basic in character, with emphasis on thorough treatments; the motivation for the topics chosen has in all cases been their importance and usefulness in various applications. Among the topics treated in detail are: methods of exciting Rayleigh surface acoustic waves on piezoelectric crystals, a coupled-mode interpretation of Bragg diffraction, the scattering of bounded laser beams by acoustically-modulated media, traveling-wave photoelastic parametric amplification, and magnetoelastic parametric interactions.
