THE REPEATABILITY OF STRENGTH OF TOUGHENED CLEAR WHITE PLATE AND TWIN GROUND PLATE GLASS,

Abstract

A total of 1250 glasses, each 12 in. square were toughened and burst under hydraulic pressure, to investigate the repeatability of strength of toughened Clear White Plate and Twin Ground Plate glass. Modulus of rupture determinations were carried out on each glass and the coefficients of variation within and between batches were calculated. The average coefficient of variation within batches was 7 1/2% for Clear White Plate and 9% for Twin Ground Plate, however, the variation in mean moduli of rupture between batches was significantly greater for Clear White Plate than for Twin Ground Plate.
