CONSIDERATIONS ON A SEWER OUTFALL OFF NOBSKA POINT.
Abstract
The effects of prospective secondary treatment domestic sewage effluent of about 14 thousand cu m per day on the marine environment of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Sounds has been examined. A steady state condition would be reached in 75 days when the sewage effluent would be diluted by a volume ranging from at least 1700 to 2800 parts of redwater for each part of effluent. The concentrations of nutrients added to the Sounds and the ecological effects would be less than is experienced in the normal annual cycle. (Author)
