OPTICAL PUMPING OF LASERS.

Abstract

The emission spectra of 40 amp-2.5 atm xenon and krypton arc discharges are calculated. The spectral overlap of these spectra and the measured emission spectra of tungsten and potassium-mercury arc discharges with the measured absorption spectra of Nd:YAG are calculated. Relative system efficiencies are calculated and agree very well with measured values. It is found that the K-Hg lamp is four times more efficient in pumping Nd:YAG than the studied W, Kr and Xe lamps. Five trial power series expansions and a numerical iterative technique have been selected for the parameter-fitting method of determining electronic radial wave functions of heavy atoms. (Author)
