DETERMINATION OF THE TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE OF THE LIFTING CONDENSATION LEVEL,
Abstract
Three methods, two iterative and one algebraic approximation, for the determination of the lifting condensation level temperature and pressure are presented. A comparison of the results of these three numerical methods and the results obtained using standard graphical techniques is made for a wide range of initial conditions of temperature and moisture content. The comparison indicates that the mixing ratio iterative technique where the precision of the mixing ratio of the lifted condensation level can be preselected provides the 'closest' answers. However, the more easily applied algebraic approximation is adequate for practical purposes over a wide range of initial conditions. (Author)
