SOLUBILITY OF PROPANE IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS.

Abstract

A new method is disclosed for the quantitative determination of propane in water, perchloric, sulfuric, phosphoric and trifluoroacetic acid solutions at various temperatures. The solubility of propane in water and all 1 molar acids except sulfuric acid appeared to be temperature dependent in the range of 20-40C. Sulfuric acid anions apparently change the association of water molecules into a more stable homogeneous arrangement which is temperature independent between 20-65C with respect to propane solubility.
