EXPERIMENTAL TESTS OF SHIELDING CODES.

Abstract

The document is a final report on a five-year program designed to test computational procedures in reactor shielding against experimental procedures. Experimental studies included fast neutron penetration in one-dimensional and two-dimensional CH2 shields, neutron spectrum measurements in a spherical shield of lithium hydride, and finally neutron and secondary gamma production in a W-LiH shield. Calculations were made using one- and two-dimensional discrete ordinates and Monte Carlo methods. The measurements and calculations are compared and summarized in detail in order to assess the accuracy of the approximations used in the calculations. (Author)
