ON ERRORS OF COMPUTER DEVICES FOR AIRCRAFT,

Abstract

The main sources of error in specialized aircraft computers are examined. Since instrument error is largely due to limited digit capacity, it is pointed out that rational selection of digit capacity requires analysis of the algorithms to be realized, so as to determine the accuracy of solution of a given problem. The effect of errors in the computer on the quality of the control system should also be evaluated. Standard expressions are derived for determining the maximum absolute error of a product, a sum of products, and a polynomial. These can be used to find the error of numeric algorithms and to select digit capacity.
