ON THE ABILITY OF BIRD FLEAS TO TRANSMIT OMSK HEMORRHAGIC FEVER TO WHITE MICE UNDER EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS,

Abstract

The paper reports about the experiments with fleas Ceratophyllus garei, Ceratophyllus gallinae and Omsk haemorrhagic fever virus. The fleas when sucking blood of viraemic mice became infected with virus and transmitted it to free virus mice by biting the latter. The results of the experiments suggest that both species of fleas can take part in the circulation of Omsk haemorrhagic fever virus in the natural nidi. (Author)
