EXPERIMENTS IN Er(3+) DOPED SrF2,

Abstract

Er(3+) doped SrF2 has been found to be an efficient infrared quantum counting material giving a visible output at room temperature. The report describes the four parts of a program of work undertaken to investigate the mechanisms and the identification of the important parameters involved in the action. The four parts reported cover optical spectroscopy, site symmetry evaluation, crystal field treatments, and the effects of ion-ion interactions. (Author)
