LARGE ANGLE SCATTERING OF H(+) AND H2(+) BY ARGON.

Abstract

The elastic differential scattering cross sections for H(+), H2(+) + Ar to H(+), H2(+) + Ar were measured for angles of 39 to 50 deg with incident lab energy of 100 eV. The apparatus utilized the properties of axially symmetric, non-uniform magnetic fields (large thin solenoid) to focus all scattered ions with vector momentum p within Delta p onto a detector placed down the magnetic axis. Thus, the solid angle was increased by a factor of about 300 over conventional methods with comparable resolution. (Author)
