ON THE BENDING OF CRACKED PLATES.

Abstract

An analysis that predicts the deflections of cracked plates is presented. Each problem is formulated in terms of dual series equations and reduced by standard techniques to a Fredholm integral equation that is solved numerically. Three cases are considered: two external cracks, crack in center of plate, and one external crack. Numerical results are included for the strain energy and the stress intensity factor. Comparison of results demonstrates the importance of geometry to these problems. (Author)
