KINETICS OF SYNTHESIS AND DECOMPOSITION REACTIONS OF IONIC COMPOUNDS CONTAINING N-F CATIONS.

Abstract

Kinetic studies have been made of the decomposition of NF4AsF6 in a Monel system. The data are interpreted in terms of an equilibrium dissociation. Values for the product K1K(eq) are presented for the range 175 to 240C, from which the sum delta H(s) + E(a) is found to be 50 kcal/mole. Preliminary results from a matrix isolation study of the decomposition of NF4AsF6 indicate that, besides NF3 and AsF5 a small amount of an unidentified compound is present. The new lines have not yet been correlated with the spectrum of any known compound. Ammonium perbromate, NH4BrO4, has been prepared, and some of its physical and chemical properties examined. It is rather similar to NH4ClO4, though somewhat less stable. (Author)
